The Step-Up Sorority is the UK’s 1st BAME sorority, forming connections for under-represented young women at the start of their careers, helping to get them into the industry of their dreams after studying. Essentially, a sisterhood for success.

Our Mission

Only 3% of Britain’s most powerful and influential people are from BAME backgrounds, despite almost 13% of the UK population being of a minority background. BAME graduates are still 12% less likely to be in work than their White British counterparts, with the potential for long term effects on students’ lives after graduation.

The Step-Up Sorority is here to bridge that gap by providing role models that represent diverse ethnic groups and facilitating job opportunities, to work towards improving this disparity.

Our Objective

Our goal is to help students and women from graduate level and up to get a head start in their chosen careers.

The Step-Up Sorority will provide “little sisters” with a network of high-profile, successful “big sisters”, that will give them the representation, resources and support they need to get into the careers of their dreams.

“We need to ensure that every young person has a role model they can look up to. It’s so important to promote the successful figures from Britain’s BAME communities. We need to create a sense of optimism, aspiration and hope.
— Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
